The Competence Centre for Mineral Resources co-hosted a workshop by the German Mineral Resources Agency (DERA) 

The Southern African – German Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SAGCC) represents German Industry in Southern Africa. The Chamber supports the work of over 600 member companies in the region.

Established in 1952, the Chamber’s Head Office is located in Johannesburg. Two branch offices in Cape Town and Durban and two offices in Lusaka (Zambia) and Maputo (Mozambique) offer member companies and clients a network of business partners covering the Southern African region.

Competence Centres, which specialise in Sustainable Energy, Mineral Resources, and CSR and Training complement the service offering of the Chamber. These service offerings are marketed under the umbrella brand of the German Chamber worldwide network, DEinternational.

The Chamber offers a wide range of services to support German and Southern African companies in their endeavour to connect to potential partners, such as:

  • General business connections,
  • Market reports,
  • Individual business partner searches,
  • Business delegations,
  • Trade fair participation,
  • Networking events.

In order to coordinate the work of the offices of the Chamber with affiliated and associated institutions in the region more efficiently, the Chamber has appointed a regional coordinator, Ms Lea Heidemann, who will be taking up the post as from 1 July 2017.

Ms Lea Heidemann has been working for the Southern African – German Chamber since 2012. In her previous position with the Chamber, she has served as the Deputy Head of the Business Development Department. Besides the coordination and implementation of the Chambers’ services, she has been responsible for the Competence Centre for Mineral Resources.

Ms Heidemann has extensive work experience in Germany, as well as in Southern Africa. She conducted her Master Studies in International Management at the University of Applied Sciences in Münster, Germany.

We congratulate Ms Heidemann on her appointment and are looking forward to good cooperation with her!

Competence Centre: Mineral Resources

The Southern African - German Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SAGCC) has established a Competence Centre for Mineral Ressources (CCMR), commissioned by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy.

The CCMR is alligned with the Ressource Strategy of the Federal Republic of Germany. The Centre´s main focus is on Southern Africa, more specifically South Africa, Zambia, Zimbabwe and the Democratic Republic Congo where mining is one of the most important Industries. These markets will contribute to the security and diversity of the German resource supply and will be markets for German technology, products and services.

The Competence Centre aims to be the central point of contact for German companies in Southern Africa and serves the following objectives:

  • Creating market transparency
  • Promoting cooperation and communication
  • Providing Services
  • Marketing/Promoting German technologies
