Welcome to the second EMPRC 2020 - European Mineral Processing and Recycling Congress. It will be celebrated in Aachen, one of the oldest and most impressing cities in Germany.

The political situation concerning raw materials in Europe has changed in the last 10 years, since political regulations restrained the free trading of minerals and metals in the world. Prices decreased after the skyrocketing in the years 2006/2007 and 2010 - 2012 to a more normal level and the fear of supply shortage became a ghost that was gone without too much consequences to the market in Europe.

New developments in the world, trade dispute between the US and the EU, but even more between US and China will lead to new shortages in the coming future. In addition the discussion about climate change and CO2 emissions will lead to more efficient processes in industrial sectors being energy and resource intensive. It will be the challenge for the coming years to face those demands with innovation, development and exchange of knowledge and experience in the field of chemical, physical and physico-chemical processing of raw materials. Therefor EMPRC 2020 is dedicated to link technology, economy and sustainability in processing of raw materials.

The focus in Europe turns more and more from primary resources to secondary material coming from waste streams and urban mining. In the sense of the circular economy we have to think even more about circular ecology, with respect to the effects on the environment and the consequences for the climate within the next 20 years.

This conference is organized and held on invitation of GDMB, Society of Metallurgists and Miners, on regular two years basis. It is addressing companies, administrations and all the others being active in the field of raw materials processing and recycling. The conference will give the participants a comprehensive overview to the state of the art of the wide range of materials processing and the interaction between technologies, possible synergies and upcoming developments. Experts from all over the globe have the chance to upgrade their knowledge and to exchange their experience here in Aachen.
